One of our objectives at Bridges of Peace and Hope is to share music, art and images that help people in different places around the world learn about each others cultures and lifestyles. Award winning photographer, John Sylvester from Prince Edward Island, Canada, teaches many things with his camera and words. We thought you’d enjoy this fascinating look at the spectacular beauty of the Arctic and the Inuit people John met. Thanks, John, for sharing this with us.

Arctic images from Greenland and Canada's Nunavut territory.
My name is John Sylvester and I'm a photographer from Prince Edward Island, Canada. For more than twenty-five years I've been very fortunate to travel throughout Canada to photograph its landscape and people. However, until last September I had never been to my country's newest northern territory, Nunavut, established in 1999. So I was thrilled to have the opportunity to visit Greenland (a Danish territory) and Nunavut in Canada's eastern arctic. Nunavut means "Our Land"  in Inuktitut and it has been home to the Inuit for many thousands of years. Today the Inuit live in small coastal towns and villages where they continue to live off the land by hunting and fishing. Some of Nunavut's communities are also world famous for the art they produce: carvings, drawings, printmaking and weaving. I felt privileged to have the opportunity to photograph the beautiful landscape of the north and the wonderful and welcoming people who call it home.
